The Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) is a world leader in marine science and technology, providing innovative solutions for the aquatic environment, biodiversity and food security. Cefas has evolved from a small fisheries laboratory in 1902 to an international organisation. Therefore, Cefas have over 100 years of datasetsacross an unrivalled breadth of marine and freshwater science specialist areas.

Cefas have developed the Cefas Marine Assessment Tool (CefMAT) to support scientists deliver national and international assessments under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and Oslo and Paris Convention for the protection and conservation of the North-East Atlantic (OSPAR).
